The client is the holding company for the financial services businesses of a global conglomerate in the league of Fortune 500. It is a universal financial solutions group catering to the diverse needs of its customers across their life stages. Powered by more than 22,000 employees, the subsidiaries of the client have a nationwide reach with 850+ branches and more than 2,00,000 agents/ channel partners, and several bank partners.
Business Challenges
The client has multiple verticals within its organization. Every vertical has its respective data island and creates separate reports from it. The disjoint reporting structure meant the group CEO could not get a consolidated view of the business and had to rely on disjoint MIS reports for collective decision-making.
Each vertical was using different data sources and complex data models, which made data integration a tedious process. The reports were in tabular format and created in Excel. The tabular structure made extracting insights time-consuming and inefficient. Also, the reports had to be created manually every day, which took significant time away from value-added work. Additionally, the metrics for each report in every group were updated at different frequencies, so they had to be sent as separate reports.
This decentralized data and reporting infrastructure lowered employee productivity and slowed down decision-making.
Solutions
Celebal Technologies designed a data integration and reporting solution leveraging Azure Synapse, Power BI, and business rules applied as per the requirement.
A centralized repository with modern functionalities was designed using Azure Synapse. Terabytes of data were extracted from disparate datasets and integrated into a common data warehouse.
Azure Data Factory was used for extracting and loading data into the Synapse warehouse. The data sources were Teradata, HFM, SQL, and Excel, and the extraction process was completed in a short period.
Staging and Reporting layers were then created on this data warehouse. This layer was used to develop Power BI reports. The BI reports compared the performances of all their subsidiaries, ran what-if analyses, and displayed metrics that enabled them to take necessary actions on the go. Dashboards showing a complete view of the verticals were also created, eliminating the disjointed reporting structure.
